On April 8, 2024, at the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety, in accordance with clause 8 of appendix 5 of the Presidential Decree No. PF-224 (dated December 24, 2024) and a directive from the Presidential Administration, organizational and financial discussions began regarding the regional CBRN field training planned in Uzbekistan. The field exercise is scheduled to take place in September 2025 and will include practical exercises and training in partnership with the European Union.
Additionally, a regional meeting is planned in Tashkent under the framework of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction. This event aims to strengthen cooperation with the international community.
At the same time, specialists from the Committee are working to draft the Law on Chemical Safety to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by September 2025. This law aims to establish a legal framework for chemical safety. Another key legislative initiative is the Law on the Management of Radioactive Waste, which is expected to be developed by November 2025 and submitted to the relevant authorities. This law will serve to ensure the safe handling of radioactive waste.
Through this EU-supported project, Uzbekistan plans to not only enhance international cooperation in the CBRN safety sectors but also improve legislation and implement important regional safety measures.
