From February 17 to 21 of this year, D. Yusupov, a representative of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Department of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety, participated as an expert in the technical meeting held at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, on the topic "Management of Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel and Decommissioning of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)".

The aim of the event was to present the experiences of IAEA member states in managing radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel and in decommissioning nuclear facilities. It also sought to improve the understanding of technical, safety, and regulatory aspects related to radioactive waste and spent fuel management, as well as the decommissioning of SMRs throughout all stages of their operational life. Another key focus was to highlight the infrastructure needs for safely managing future radioactive waste and spent fuel, provide a platform for information exchange, and promote cooperation between SMR designers and relevant organizations.
