At last, a long-standing historical shortcoming has been corrected. Today, our President signed into law the act on refining the Latin-based Uzbek alphabet.

Of course, transitions are never effortless, and it is natural that some may feel hesitation or concern. Yet, rest assured, there was no alternative path to eliminate the practical drawbacks in our writing system and solidify our language's standing across the digital sphere.
Does this mean all existing documentation must now be reissued? Not at all! We selected a transition framework that minimizes administrative and financial costs: all current valid legal documents, national currency banknotes, and securities retain their full legal force, while textbooks, official signage, and public indicators will be phased out and replaced systematically upon the expiration of their standard lifecycle.
The enactment of this law precisely on October 21 carries profound symbolic weight. I firmly believe our reformed alphabet will honor the aspirations of our enlightened Jadid forebears, elevate youth literacy, and reinforce the international prestige of our mother tongue.
Happy Uzbek Language Day to everyone!
