Organized in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and relevant state bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the program convenes delegates representing 11 national ministries and regulatory agencies.
During the opening session, U.S. Department of Energy representatives S. Heffernan, A. Becerra, and P. Kolbas expressed their appreciation to all partner agencies for their effective bilateral collaboration in establishing the training curriculum.
The course centers primarily on reinforcing interagency coordination for detecting and responding rapidly to radiation and nuclear incidents, enhancing the operational capacity of frontline oversight agencies, and upgrading national counter-smuggling protocols for radioactive sources.
Throughout the sessions, participants—including specialists from the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety—will review international best practices and regulatory benchmarks. Practical simulation exercises will further enable personnel to draft synchronized interagency action plans and sharpen collaborative incident-response capabilities under emergency conditions.
