Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The training course, organized at the initiative of the International Atomic Energy Agency — IAEA — within the framework of the regional cooperation project INT2024, was dedicated to the topic “Basic Safety of Nuclear Power Plants for Regulatory Body Staff.” The high-level event was hosted by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority — PNRA.

The four-week training programme, attended by industry representatives from various countries as well as international experts, combined theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In particular, our specialist enhanced his qualifications in the following important areas:

🔹 Licensing and inspection of nuclear facilities: regulatory oversight, site selection for facilities, and mechanisms for environmental impact assessment;

🔹 Safety culture and the human factor: developing a safety culture within organizations, risk analysis, and the principles of nuclear safety management — Management for Safety;

🔹 Practical experience: as part of the programme, special technical visits were organized to major scientific and engineering facilities under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission — PAEC. This provided an opportunity to observe the application of theoretical knowledge directly in practice and in real working processes.

At a time when Uzbekistan is developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and implementing a nuclear power plant project, studying advanced international experience is of particular importance. The knowledge gained during this training course will contribute to the implementation of state oversight of nuclear and radiological safety in our country based on the highest IAEA standards.
