INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON PUBLIC COMMUNICATION IN NUCLEAR AND RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCIES HELD

The seminar took place at the IAEA’s RANET Capacity Building Centre (CBC) and brought together experts from various countries. The primary objective of the seminar was to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in providing accurate and reliable information to the public during nuclear and radiological emergencies, explaining risks, and establishing effective communication between government authorities, mass media, and the public. ⚛️
Bekhzod Berdiev, Head of the Information Service of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety of the Republic of Uzbekistan, also participated in the event.
As part of the seminar, participants attended lectures, practical sessions, and analytical discussions conducted by leading experts. In addition, participants visited the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and affected areas, where they gained practical insights into emergency response, consequence management, and public communication strategies. 🏭
During the sessions, participants were trained in the following key areas:

📌 psychology of risk perception among the population
📌 working with mass media and social networks
📌 combating misinformation and disinformation
📌 coordination and information exchange among government agencies 🎓
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants gained in-depth knowledge of international best practices in public communication during nuclear and radiological emergencies and actively engaged in practical exercises.
At the end of the event, participants were awarded official certificates from the International Atomic Energy Agency. Notably, the representative of Uzbekistan also received an official IAEA certificate. 📜
