Practical Stage of Projects and International Standards
During the meeting, the progress of the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan was analyzed. It was noted that the foundation stone for the first reactor building was laid in October 2025, and the design work for the plant is currently proceeding in full accordance with international safety standards.
Personnel Training and Scientific Capacity
Special emphasis is being placed on capacity building to ensure the sustainable and safe development of the industry. A significant step in this direction was the launch of the Advanced Engineering School last year, based at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. This institution serves as a cornerstone for training highly qualified specialists in nuclear energy and nuclear technologies.
Priority Areas of Cooperation
The parties agreed to expand cooperation in the following areas of the peaceful use of nuclear energy:
-
Agriculture and Medicine: Integrating nuclear technologies to enhance sectoral efficiency;
-
Radiation Safety: Strengthening state oversight during the construction and operation of facilities;
-
Social Projects: Development of regions hosting nuclear energy infrastructure.
The Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety will continue to ensure strict compliance with established nuclear and radiation safety regulations throughout the implementation of these strategic projects.
