Uzbekistan and China Expand Cooperation in Radiation and Nuclear Safety

The agreement was signed between Abduvakkos Rafiqov, Chairman of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Mr. Dong Baotong, Chairman of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) of the People's Republic of China.
This memorandum will facilitate expanded cooperation between the competent authorities of the two nations in the following priority areas:

Development of regulatory infrastructure in the nuclear energy sector;

Effective organization of national nuclear energy programs;

Drafting of regulatory and legal frameworks;

Human resources capacity building;
-
Ensuring overall radiation and nuclear safety.
For Reference: Currently, the People's Republic of China operates 59 nuclear power units with a total capacity of 62.2 GW. Additionally, 28 new units are under construction. Annual electricity production from nuclear plants reaches 451,000 GWh.
China ranks second in the world in the number of operational nuclear units (after the USA) and third in total nuclear capacity (after the USA and France). It holds the first position globally in the number of new nuclear units currently under construction.
The signed memorandum is of significant importance for studying oversight practices in radiation and nuclear safety during the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, enhancing specialist qualifications, and implementing international best practices within Uzbekistan.
