In 2026, new achievements were recorded in promoting reading across several areas, from expanding library access to supporting authors and encouraging readers.
How is access to books being expanded?
-
20 libraries with new designs are being established;
-
The number of mahalla libraries is planned to increase from 12 to 330;
-
40 “Book Corners” have been established in government organizations.
How extensive is reading engagement today?
The national library system has 495,000 registered members. The Reading Index covers 248 publishing houses, 829 bookstores, and 3.1 million readers.
How are authors being supported?
The “Talented Author” competition received applications from 217 writers. A total of 29 authors received awards, with UZS 3.2 billion allocated in prize money.
The “Young Writers” competition attracted 201 young participants. Works by 15 winners are being published with a combined print run of 15,000 copies.
What about the readers themselves?
So far, 27,455 participants have registered for the “Top 100 Readers” project. The final round will take place in December.
These figures demonstrate that efforts to create books, make them accessible to readers, and encourage reading are being pursued simultaneously.
