A delegation from the Youth Affairs Agency attended the 78th Frankfurt International Book Fair in Germany.
The five-day event provided an opportunity to engage directly with leading international publishers and expand cooperation on translating contemporary scientific and educational literature into Uzbek.
In particular, discussions were held with representatives of MIT Press, Oxford University Press, Princeton University Press, Phaidon, Znak, and the Eastern European and Asian Rights Agency (EEARA). The main focus was on acquiring translation rights to foundational works in artificial intelligence, technology, science, and education, translating them into Uzbek, and making them accessible to readers in Uzbekistan.
At the conclusion of the fair, a meeting was held between the organizers and representatives of Central Asian delegations. Participants included Juergen Boos, the long-serving head of the Frankfurt Book Fair; Joachim Kaufmann, its new head; Vladka Kupska, responsible for key account management; and Bettina Back, International Projects Manager.
The meeting covered experiences in promoting reading across the region, the attention given to this field by the President of Uzbekistan, projects implemented by the Youth Affairs Agency — including the “One Thousand Books for Youth” initiative — and prospects for future cooperation.
