Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan sum up outcomes of productive talks

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan noted with satisfaction the significant achievements of fraternal Tajikistan in ensuring sustainable economic growth, attracting investment, curbing inflation, and increasing real incomes.
Tajikistan is a reliable strategic partner and ally of Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that the two countries share common goals and aspirations, while bilateral relations continue to develop dynamically across the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.
The regular meetings at the level of parliaments and governments, heads of regions, and representatives of the intelligentsia was noted with satisfaction.
Last year, bilateral trade approached $1 billion. Industrial cooperation continues to expand, with more than 500 joint ventures currently operating in Uzbekistan.
Transport cooperation continues to expand, with ten weekly flights operating between the capitals.
The President of Uzbekistan highlighted the extensive preparatory work carried out ahead of the current summit.
Meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, forums of regions, rectors, scientists, youth, think tanks, Days of Tajik Culture and Cinema, as well as a number of other important events were successfully held.
During the productive talks and the first meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, a wide range of issues was discussed, and key priorities and targets for the development of multifaceted partnership were identified.
The importance of maintaining active engagement at all levels and deepening dialogue within international and regional frameworks, including the Consultative Meetings format and the “Central Asia Plus” platforms, was emphasized.
Particular attention was paid to advancing economic cooperation. The governments of the two countries have been instructed to take practical steps to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion under a dedicated program.
To this end, the establishment of the Oybek–Fotekhobod trade zone will be accelerated, and a Cooperation Program encompassing initiatives worth $2 billion across energy, geology, metallurgy, textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors will be implemented.
The parties agreed to actively use the potential of the Joint Investment Company to promote these projects.
Special attention was paid to the transport and transit sphere. An agreement was signed on the implementation of an electronic permit system for freight transport, while agreements were reached on expanding air and rail links and increasing the capacity of border checkpoints.
The main goal of all these coordinated measures is to create favorable conditions for business and citizens, as well as to utilize the potential of the regions as drivers for expanding trade and economic partnership.
Cooperation in the water and energy sector was identified as one of the key areas of interaction.
The parties confirmed their readiness to jointly advance large-scale green energy projects, as well as to coordinate efforts on water distribution and the automation and digitalization of water infrastructure.
Cultural and humanitarian ties continue to serve as a strong bridge of friendship between the peoples of the two countries. As part of this cooperation, a film dedicated to the friendship between Abdurahman Jami and Alisher Navoi has been produced, and a street in New Tashkent has been named after the city of Dushanbe.
An intention to continue active exchanges in the fields of education, tourism, and youth based on an annual calendar was announced.
A comprehensive program of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere will be developed to support Uzbek and Tajik diaspora communities, promote the development of cultural centers, and preserve native languages, traditions, and customs.
In conclusion, it was emphasized that the outcomes of the current historic visit will contribute significantly to further strengthening allied relations, as well as to advancing the sustainable development and prosperity of the two fraternal nations.
