On October 23–24, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ibrohim Ergashev visited the Samarkand region to review progress on the establishment of the Jartepa Free Trade Zone in Urgut district and hold meetings with relevant officials and entrepreneurs on export development.
During the visit, discussions focused on developing trade and logistics infrastructure, organizing customs control, constructing access roads, and simplifying border-crossing procedures with Tajikistan.
A videoconference with representatives of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Penjikent administration addressed conditions for cross-border trade and further steps toward launching the zone.
An open dialogue was also held with more than 50 regional exporters. Over 30 issues and requests related to logistics, customs procedures, financing, and certification were reviewed, with some resolved on the spot.
Following the visit, responsible officials, deadlines, and specific measures were identified to accelerate the launch of the Jartepa Free Trade Zone, eliminate existing barriers, and support export activities.
