Syria is emerging as one of the promising destinations for expanding Uzbekistan’s exports and strengthening investment cooperation in the Middle East. These issues were central to the meeting between the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, and the Chairman of the Syrian Arab Republic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alaa Omar Al-Alali.
It was noted that bilateral trade has demonstrated steady positive growth: between 2017 and 2025, trade turnover increased nearly fivefold. At the same time, it was emphasized that current figures do not yet fully reflect the potential of bilateral cooperation.
Among the priorities identified were the establishment of an Uzbekistan Trade House in Syria, the development of logistics infrastructure, the formation of an intergovernmental commission, the regular organization of exhibitions under the “Made in Uzbekistan” and “Made in Syria” formats, and the creation of an Uzbek–Syrian Business Council.
The parties discussed expanding the range of contracts, increasing exports of Uzbek pharmaceutical and food products, including processed goods, as well as boosting imports of Syrian olive oil. Particular attention was paid to preparing agreements in the areas of trade, customs administration, quarantine and phytosanitary requirements, and the mutual protection of investments.
