Uzbekistan and Djibouti agree to expand cooperation in the field of education

During the talks, the sides exchanged views on establishing student and teacher exchange programmes, implementing joint scientific projects, introducing advanced international practices in vocational education, as well as enabling gifted graduates from Djibouti to study at higher and vocational education institutions in Uzbekistan. The parties also agreed to strengthen institutional ties between universities and vocational education centres of both countries and to build long-term cooperation mechanisms.
Mohamed Mahmoud Mustafa informed the Uzbek side about the education reforms carried out in Djibouti over the past 27 years. He noted that 100% of the population is covered by school education, and equal learning conditions have been created for boys and girls. Currently, more than 12,000 students are studying at the University of Djibouti in fields such as economics, law, engineering, medicine and social sciences.
In turn, Qong‘irotboy Sharipov spoke about Uzbekistan’s efforts to reduce poverty, develop innovation, ensure economic growth and modernize the vocational education system through education reforms. He emphasized that, upon the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, 2026 has been declared the “Year of Vocational Education” in Uzbekistan, and expanding international cooperation in this field is a priority. In this regard, he highlighted the importance of launching joint vocational programs with Djibouti, enhancing teacher qualifications and training specialists in technical fields.
At the initial stage, Uzbekistan announced the possibility of allocating 10 scholarships for Djiboutian youth to study in Uzbek universities and technical colleges in fields such as engineering, medicine, information technology and artificial intelligence. Djibouti’s Minister of Education, Mohamed Mahmoud Mustafa, welcomed this initiative with great appreciation and assessed it as an important step in strengthening friendly and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a framework document aimed at expanding cooperation in higher and vocational education, science and innovation, as well as to define practical steps for its implementation.
