“Five Initiatives Olympiad”: Mass Sports Competitions for University Students Officially Launched

The event was attended by Kungirotboy Sharipov, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation; representatives of relevant ministries and government agencies; heads of higher education institutions; representatives of the Uzbekistan Student Sports Association; and university students.
Representatives of the leadership of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF), who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the 1st Central Asian International Student Sports Forum, also took part in the ceremony. The forum is being held in Uzbekistan from 29 September to 2 October.
During the opening ceremony, FISU President Leonz Eder and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kungirotboy Sharipov pressed the symbolic button to launch the competitions. This officially marked the start of the 2026 sports competitions among students of higher education institutions.
In addition, in recognition of their effective work in developing student sports, promoting mass participation in sports, encouraging young people to engage in physical education and sports, and making a significant contribution to the sector, a number of specialists were awarded the “Excellence in Physical Education and Sports” badge.
For reference: More than 530,000 students and young people registered to participate in the 2026 season of the competitions held במסגרת the “Five Initiatives Olympiad.” The competitions will be organised in five sports: mini-football, volleyball, 3x3 basketball (streetball), table tennis and athletics.
