The meeting, held within the framework of the 1st Central Asian International Forum on Student Sports, was attended by FISU President Leonz Eder, Deputy Secretary General of the International University Sports Federation Fernando Silva Parente, President of the Central Asian Student Sports Federation Qayrat Qayrullinovich, Secretary General of the Mongolian Student Sports Federation Jargalsaykhan Dorjsuren, and representatives of the Uzbekistan Student Sports Association.
The discussions focused on ensuring the successful organization of the 1st Central Asian International Forum on Student Sports, developing student sports in Uzbekistan, encouraging broader youth participation in grassroots sports, and strengthening international cooperation in university sports.
It was noted that Uzbekistan places particular emphasis on the development of student sports. Major sporting competitions, including Universiade, the Student League, the Five Initiatives Olympiad, the New Uzbekistan Student Olympiad, and Talaba-yugur, are held on a regular and systematic basis.
These competitions play an important role in increasing young people’s physical activity, identifying talented athletes, improving their sporting skills, and building a talent pipeline for elite sports.
The meeting also addressed the achievements of Uzbek athletes at international competitions, the role of student sports in the national sports system, and prospects for further expanding cooperation between universities.
As part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation, advance student sports to a new level, and develop bilateral relations, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Uzbekistan and the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to continue working together to develop student sports, exchange international expertise, and foster friendship, mutual respect, and an atmosphere of healthy competition among young people.
