The new procedure will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic year.

How long will Master’s programmes last?

Master’s students will be trained:

— under programmes focused on production (practical) activities — for a period of at least 1 year;

— under programmes focused on research and teaching activities — for a period of at least 2 years.

How will education be organised?

Master’s education may be provided in the following modes:

— full-time;

— evening;

— distance learning.

In practice-oriented Master’s programmes, students will acquire theoretical knowledge through joint lectures in general courses and undertake practical training at organisations relevant to their specialisation.

In research and teaching-oriented Master’s programmes, alongside theoretical training, students will carry out fundamental and applied research, as well as scientific and creative work.

What requirements will be established for graduates?

Graduates of practice-oriented Master’s programmes, depending on the specific requirements of their specialisation, will prepare and defend:

— a project;

— a design project;

— a start-up project;

— a rationalisation proposal;

— a practical and creative work;

or another relevant type of final work.

Graduates of research and teaching-oriented Master’s programmes will prepare and defend a Master’s thesis.

New requirements for Master’s theses:

— a supervisor’s statement must be submitted;

— a statement or certificate confirming that the thesis contains no plagiarism must be submitted;

— the thesis will undergo a “blind expert review”.

In addition, the title of the Master’s thesis, its brief abstract, and the date of the defence will be published on the official website of the higher education institution.

What other opportunities will be created?

Targeted training of Master’s students based on the requirements of employer organisations will be introduced.

Depending on the nature of the research, the defence of Master’s theses may be held:

— at a higher education institution;

— at the Academy of Sciences;

— at relevant sectoral research institutions or production enterprises.

In addition, by mutual agreement between higher education institutions, two students will be allowed to jointly prepare a Master’s thesis based on an interdisciplinary approach.

Master’s students who publish scientific articles will also be eligible for incentives.

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, Master’s students who publish articles during their studies in journals indexed in the Scopus or Web of Science databases will be rewarded in accordance with the established procedure.
