New Prospects for Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Technical University of Munich Discussed

Today, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Qo‘ng‘irotboy Sharipov held a meeting with Professor Wolfgang A. Herrmann, Honorary President of the Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München — TUM), and Professor Ali Sunyayev, Vice President of TUM.

The meeting focused on the development of higher education, science and innovation in Uzbekistan, the expansion of international cooperation, and further strengthening ties with leading foreign universities.
Particular attention was paid to the introduction of the “U10” national system aimed at supporting universities in Uzbekistan with the highest potential, as well as the involvement of international experts, including TUM specialists, in developing its criteria and assessment mechanisms.
The participants also discussed prospects for cooperation in developing international expertise and an independent peer review system for evaluating research grants, as well as engaging German scientists and TUM professors in expert evaluation processes.
During the meeting, a proposal was put forward to launch dual-degree education programmes and to jointly explore the possibility of establishing a TUM branch or academic campus in Uzbekistan in the future.
For reference, student exchange programmes are currently in place between New Uzbekistan University and TUM. TUM professors are also involved in developing educational programmes, while joint research projects are being further developed.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of identifying concrete steps to advance cooperation in the areas of U10, international research grant evaluation, dual-degree programmes, and new forms of institutional partnership with TUM was emphasized.
