Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The meeting focused on the current state and prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of higher education, science and innovation. It was noted that a number of higher education institutions in Uzbekistan are currently cooperating with leading Japanese universities, including the University of Tsukuba, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, Osaka University and others. More than 2,300 Uzbek citizens are currently studying at higher education institutions in Japan. The meeting also highlighted the outcomes of the 5th Uzbekistan–Japan Rectors’ Forum, held in Samarkand in 2025. Within the framework of the forum, partnerships were established between 30 higher education institutions from Uzbekistan and more than 15 Japanese universities and educational organizations, while more than 10 cooperation agreements were signed. The parties discussed accelerating the project to establish a new university in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the University of Tsukuba, as well as expanding joint educational programmes in priority areas such as engineering, IT, medicine, energy, agriculture and other fields. Proposals were also put forward to attract Japanese professors and specialists to Uzbekistan, expand academic mobility and scientific cooperation, and organize joint educational programmes and summer schools for students. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to take Uzbekistan–Japan cooperation in education and science to a new level.
