Uzbekistan and Egypt Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Higher Education, Science and Innovation

During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to elevate the centuries-old historical ties between Uzbekistan and Egypt to a new level through cooperation in higher education, science and innovation. They emphasized the importance of implementing joint research projects in priority areas for both countries, including water resources management, new and renewable energy, agriculture, and artificial intelligence.
The discussions also focused on enhancing exchanges of scientists, researchers, and faculty members, organizing joint professional development programs, internships, seminars, and scientific conferences, as well as strengthening direct partnerships between higher education institutions of the two countries.
Particular attention was paid to launching joint academic programs, expanding cooperation in master's and doctoral education, developing highly qualified researchers, and promoting student exchange initiatives. The parties also discussed the prospects of establishing reciprocal scholarship programs and further expanding academic mobility.
It was noted that the Study in Uzbekistan Education Exhibition will be held in Cairo from 28 to 30 July this year, bringing together 15 higher education institutions from Uzbekistan. The parties also highlighted that 390 Egyptian students, primarily in medical specialties, are currently studying at higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.
The meeting also included discussions on the draft Implementation Program for Cooperation in Higher Education, Science and Innovation for 2026–2030 between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was noted that the draft document had been submitted to the Egyptian side for review, and an online meeting involving experts from both sides was proposed to finalize the document.
In addition, the parties exchanged views on the ongoing negotiations between the University of Geological Sciences of Uzbekistan and Egypt's Seagull Petroleum and Mining company regarding the establishment of a branch campus of the university in Cairo. It was reported that a preliminary agreement had been reached, and the Egyptian side had been invited to Tashkent to sign the relevant agreement.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation in scientific and innovation activities, technology transfer, technology-based entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of research outcomes. They also expressed support for the creation of a joint innovation platform connecting Tashkent and Cairo, reaffirming their shared commitment to elevating educational and scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt to a new stage.
