Issues of Advancing Effective Governance in Higher Education Institutions of Uzbekistan Discussed

During the meeting, the parties discussed further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom in the field of higher education, introducing modern governance mechanisms in higher education institutions, and implementing international best practices.
Ms. Gulyamova presented the outcomes of the University Governance Code project implemented between 2023 and 2026. It was noted that 17 higher education institutions, including public universities and international higher education institutions, participated in the project.
It was emphasized that the project contributes to establishing an effective and transparent governance system in universities, improving strategic planning, and enhancing the quality of education.
The meeting also reviewed the draft document entitled “Regulations on Organizing Effective Governance in Higher Education Institutions,” developed through the cooperation of the University Governance Working Group under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the British Council, and experts from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
The parties exchanged views on the prospects of introducing the document into the higher education system, the mechanisms for its implementation, and further development of a culture of corporate governance within universities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to continue joint initiatives aimed at expanding cooperation in higher education, introducing international best practices, and improving the effectiveness of university governance.
