Today, TUM is recognized as one of Europe’s leading universities. The institution consistently ranks among the world’s top universities in both the QS and Times Higher Education rankings. At the same time, TUM serves as the intellectual engine of Bavaria’s industry and is one of Europe’s strongest innovation ecosystems, featuring seven Excellence Clusters, 263 European Research Council (ERC) grants, more than 10,000 scientific publications annually, and around 80 patent applications each year. In 2025 alone, 115 startups were established within the TUM ecosystem, while the number of unicorn companies founded by TUM alumni and researchers reached 22.
During the discussions, the parties explored opportunities to introduce TUM’s experience into Uzbekistan’s higher education system, strengthen ties between universities and the real economy, significantly enhance engineering education, commercialize research outcomes, and develop an internationally competitive startup ecosystem in the country.
Particular attention was given to areas of strategic importance for Uzbekistan, including water resource management, healthcare, engineering, agricultural technologies, information technology, and artificial intelligence. In these fields, TUM is viewed not only as an academic partner but also as a strategic pillar in transforming Uzbekistan’s universities into next-generation innovation hubs.
The meeting resulted in the following key agreements:
• to provide students of New Uzbekistan University with the opportunity to study at TUM for one semester starting from the upcoming autumn semester;
• to launch a new aerospace engineering academic program in partnership with TUM;
• to utilize TUM’s experience in developing startup ecosystems within Uzbek universities, commercializing research outputs, and strengthening university-industry collaboration;
• to expand joint educational and research projects in engineering, information technology, artificial intelligence, agricultural technologies, medical technologies, and water resource management;
• to engage TUM as a strategic academic partner in the transformation of Uzbekistan’s higher education system.
The meeting marked an important step toward elevating Uzbekistan’s universities to a new level, transforming them into strong ecosystems connected with industry, science, and innovation, and preparing a new generation of globally competitive engineers and technology leaders.
