Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Algeria in the field of higher education will be strengthened

On June 13 of this year, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Kongratbay Sharipov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Algeria to Uzbekistan Mohammed Irki. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Adviser Nabila Gazli and Rector of the Uzbek State University of World Languages ​​Ilkhom Tukhtasinov.

Minister K. Sharipov informed about cooperation between higher educational institutions of the two countries.

“Joint work is underway with higher educational institutions in Algeria,” the minister said. – To date, 4 universities in Uzbekistan have established cooperation with higher educational institutions in Algeria. In particular, in 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State University of World Languages ​​of Uzbekistan and the Biskra University named after Muhammad Khider. A number of students from the Uzbek State University of World Languages ​​completed a 4-month internship at Al-Wadi University in the 2023/2024 academic year. More than 4,000 students study Arabic as a primary or second foreign language as a separate field of study in a total of 6 public universities.

The Ambassador thanked the Minister for the meeting. In order to further expand cooperation between higher education institutions of the two countries, he proposed signing a corresponding document between the ministries responsible for higher education in Uzbekistan and Algeria.

K. Sharipov, in turn, proposed signing a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria and establishing cooperation in the following areas:
Allocation of quotas for Uzbek students in universities in Algeria, establishing cooperation with universities in Algeria and Uzbekistan in priority areas of education;
Co-financing of competitions for joint scientific projects between Uzbekistan and Algeria;
Expanding the practice of mutual invitation of representatives of the scientific community and professors of universities in Uzbekistan and Algeria to participate in international and regional scientific conferences and forums.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to prepare a draft Memorandum of Understanding, which will be approved by the responsible authorities of the two countries and prepared for signing.
