From Concept to Implementation: Students Contribute to Upgrading Infrastructure in “Challenging” Neighborhoods

Within the framework of this initiative, more than 600 young specialists — including third- and fourth-year undergraduate students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates in architecture and construction from Termez State University of Engineering and Agrotechnologies — were selected and assigned to develop master plans for 114 “challenging” neighborhoods in Surkhandarya region.
The students conducted comprehensive assessments of neighborhood infrastructure and socio-economic conditions and developed proposals aimed at improving road and utility networks, expanding green spaces, enhancing social facilities, and fostering small business development. The projects are designed to contribute directly to poverty reduction efforts.
The Governor of Surkhandarya region reviewed the refined projects on site together with the students, incorporating practical recommendations provided during earlier meetings, and officially launched their implementation. Twenty students who demonstrated exemplary performance will be sent abroad for professional exchange and experience sharing.
The process has been fully integrated into the academic curriculum. Undergraduate students complete their industrial internships through the development of neighborhood master plans. Master’s students dedicate their research projects and theses to addressing real challenges within the neighborhoods. Doctoral candidates conduct in-depth analyses on regional development, infrastructure modernization, and socio-economic sustainability. In this way, education, research, and practical application have been unified into a single integrated system.
