585th Anniversary of Alisher Navoi Celebrated at TURKSOY

The prestigious event brought together representatives of academia, literature, and diplomacy from Turkic countries. Among the participants were Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ankara Yerkebulan Sapiyev, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Ankara Mekan Ishanguliyev, Chair of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan and People’s Poet of Uzbekistan Sirojiddin Sayyid, Rector of the Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature, Academician Shukhrat Sirojiddinov, Head of the Department of Uzbek Literature History and People’s Poet of Uzbekistan Usmon Azim, Professor Nurboy Jabborov, Rector of Ankara Social Sciences University and Chair of the Writers’ Union of Turkey Musa Kazım Arijan, as well as Professor Seadet Drixiyeva of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
Opening the event, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Rayev described Navoi as the collective conscience and civilizational symbol of the Turkic world. He emphasized the strong attention given in Uzbekistan to preserving ancestral heritage and highlighted the importance of state policies supporting literature and culture and promoting Navoi’s legacy among younger generations.
In his address, Academician Shukhrat Sirojiddinov spoke about the study of Navoi’s works in Uzbekistan and internationally, including manuscript research, publication, and translation efforts. He stressed the importance of applying modern scholarly approaches to Navoi’s legacy and fostering its appreciation among youth. The universal significance of Navoi’s heritage was underscored, recognizing him as a spiritual genius not only of the Turkic peoples but of humanity as a whole.
Representatives of the Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature presented information on ongoing research projects and international cooperation related to Navoi studies.
It was noted that Navoi’s works are being translated into various Turkic languages. In particular, the complete translation of “Khamsa” into Azerbaijani has been published in Baku, while “Mahbub ul-Qulub” has been translated into Azerbaijani, Karakalpak, and Kazakh. Scholarly and literary works dedicated to his life and творчество continue to be published.
At the conclusion of the conference, Academician Shukhrat Sirojiddinov and People’s Poet of Uzbekistan Professor Usmon Azim were awarded the TURKSOY Gold Medal for their contributions to the development of Turkic culture and literature. Sirojiddin Sayyid and Professor Nurboy Jabborov were awarded the TURKSOY Medal.
