Uzbekistan Expands Scientific Cooperation with the European Union under Horizon Europe

The conference was organized at the initiative of Uzbekistan’s National Contact Coordinator for Horizon Europe, with the support of the European Commission’s Global Service Facility and the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan. The event was hosted by Toshkent davlat texnika universiteti and brought together more than 100 scientists and researchers from across the country, as well as representatives of higher education institutions, industry, and policymakers.
The first session focused on the Horizon Europe Work Programmes for 2026–2027, including funding priorities, thematic clusters, and mechanisms for international cooperation. It was emphasized that participation in the program represents not only financial opportunities but also a strategic step toward integration into the European Research Area.
Representatives of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, specialists from the Erasmus+ National Office, and sectoral national coordinators participated in the discussions. EU representatives highlighted the inclusive principles of international cooperation and noted that researchers from Uzbekistan and Central Asia are eligible to participate in Horizon Europe projects and receive funding.
Successful experiences of international projects were also presented, with particular emphasis on the growing participation of Uzbekistan’s research institutions in international consortia.
The two-day conference demonstrated a shared commitment to strengthening long-term scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union based on innovation-driven growth, mutual trust, and aligned interests.
Participation in Horizon Europe aims to enhance scientific capacity, expand international research networks, promote technology transfer and commercialization, encourage young researchers, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan will continue to support researchers, universities, and companies in effectively utilizing international funding opportunities and expanding global scientific cooperation.
The active participation of more than 100 scientists and researchers from across the country once again confirmed Uzbekistan’s firm commitment to active engagement in international scientific platforms and meaningful contribution to global scientific advancement.
