In order to expand international cooperation in the field of higher education and to train competitive specialists equipped with modern knowledge and skills based on the educational programs of leading higher education institutions of the French Republic, Presidential Resolution No. PQ–354 “On Measures to Establish the Uzbek-French University” was adopted on November 26, 2025.
According to the Roadmap for organizing the activities of the Uzbek-French University, approved as Annex 2 to the Resolution, the gradual termination of the Academic Lyceum under Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature is предусмотрено. This process is scheduled to be completed by May 2027.
Currently, the Academic Lyceum provides education in two fields: “Foreign Languages” and “Social Sciences and Humanities.” In the city of Tashkent, 23 academic lyceums operate in related and similar fields, where sufficient capacity and appropriate conditions are available to admit students and ensure quality education.
In connection with the termination of the Academic Lyceum’s activities, the labor rights of administrative, teaching, and other staff members will be safeguarded in accordance with the current labor legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. All employment matters will be resolved in due process while maintaining all applicable social guarantees.
It is important to emphasize that this decision is not related to reducing any field of study or diminishing attention to the Uzbek language. Rather, it is aimed at optimizing the education system, introducing international best practices, and expanding opportunities for training highly qualified specialists. The decision does not imply any negative attitude toward the state language or its role in education.
