Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan

During the meeting, the parties discussed further expanding mutual cooperation in the fields of science, innovation, and technology, implementing joint research projects, introducing advanced technologies, enhancing scientific capacity, as well as promoting the exchange of experience between scientists and specialists.

The negotiations also identified promising areas for intensifying bilateral cooperation, supporting innovative developments, encouraging young scientists and researchers, and applying scientific achievements to various sectors of the economy.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening international collaboration in the fields of science, innovation, and technology was signed between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

Within the framework of the Memorandum, the following key outcomes are envisaged:

Expanded access to Japan’s advanced technologies and scientific schools
– With the support of JST, direct cooperation will be established with Japan’s leading scientific laboratories, universities, and research and development (R&D) centers.

Development of joint scientific research and technological innovations
– Opportunities will be created to implement joint research projects in engineering, biotechnology, agriculture, energy, materials science, and other priority areas.

Exchange and professional development programs for young scientists and researchers
– Through scientific internships in Japan, joint seminars, training sessions, and academic exchange programs, the scientific and innovative capacity of young professionals will be significantly enhanced.

Improvement of scientific governance and science policy
– JST’s advanced experience in innovative management models, grant systems, project evaluation mechanisms, and the development of scientific ecosystems will be introduced into practice in Uzbekistan.

Integration into international scientific networks
– Through global consortia involving JST, Uzbek scientists will gain opportunities to actively participate in international research networks, joint consortia, prestigious grant programs, and international rankings.
