October 21 – Uzbek Language Day
2025-10-21 / Calendar of events

October 21 is widely celebrated as Uzbek Language Day. On this date in 1989, the Law “On the State Language” was adopted, granting Uzbek the status of the state language. This day signifies that our national language is a sacred value, protected by law, and holds a special place in state life.
In 2020, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev officially declared October 21 as “Uzbek Language Day.” Since then, various cultural and educational events have been held across the country each year.
The essence of this holiday is to value the language as an inseparable part of the nation, to preserve it, and to promote its development. During the events, special attention is given to the origins of the Uzbek language, its historical development, the challenges of gaining state language status, and ongoing efforts to improve language policy.
The life and works of great thinkers such as Alisher Navoi are commemorated, highlighting the richness of the Uzbek language and its cultural heritage. This day encourages the younger generation to love, respect, and contribute to the growth of their mother tongue.
Uzbek Language Day not only reflects national identity but also serves as an important factor in strengthening friendship and harmony among peoples. The motto of the holiday is: “May your dignity be exalted, my Mother Tongue!”
