Nine projects worth $2 billion

Tashkent region is of strategic importance in the economy of Uzbekistan. The potential of this region and the capital are interconnected and complement each other.

Over the past five years, industrial production in Tashkent region has increased by 1.5 times and amounted to 107 trillion UZS, and regional exports have increased by 3.5 times and reached almost $1 billion.

A favorable business and investment climate contributes to increased investment and the introduction of advanced technologies. If only $20 million in investments were attracted to the region in 2018, then this figure reached $1 billion last year. The number of enterprises with foreign capital also grows yearly and currently stands at 1,700.

Today, work is underway on 91 foreign investment projects worth $20 billion 360 million and 28 domestic investment projects worth $4.5 billion.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of the projects during the ceremony.

In particular, a special industrial technopark “Great Silk Road” will be built in the city of Olmaliq with investments of $1 billion on ​​227 hectares. It will house about 100 enterprises in electrical engineering, textiles, construction materials, and pharmaceuticals. 3,000 new jobs will be created, production of goods worth 5 trillion UZS per year will be established, and the opportunity to export goods worth $300 million will appear.

A textile industrial park with an area of ​​69 hectares will be created in Yuqorichirchiq district for $350 million. It will house over 20 enterprises producing yarn, dyed fabric, and finished textile products.

The production and export of food products in Uzbekistan are consistently growing. By 2030, food production must increase by twofold, export by fivefold, and the level of added value by threefold. Tashkent region will undoubtedly make a great contribution to achieving this goal.

In particular, enterprises for producing 50 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers and chemicals per year are being commissioned in Yangiyul district, and enterprises for producing high-quality export-oriented food products are being commissioned in Qibray.

Tashkent region also has excellent potential in the energy sector, with a capacity of 5.7 gigawatts. To increase this volume, 6 projects with more than 800 megawatts of capacity are being implemented for $1.5 billion.

Along with the development of green energy in the country, much work is being done to maintain the stability of the energy system. Therefore, by 2030, it is planned to build electricity storage systems with a total capacity of 4,100 megawatts.

Three projects, implemented with the participation of leading Chinese companies, play an essential role in this. First, a solar power plant worth $240 million will be built in Buka district with China Datang. This plant will generate 576 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which is enough to supply 240 thousand households. As a result, the generation capacity in the region will be increased to 6.5 gigawatts, and electricity production will increase to 24 billion kilowatt-hours per year.

Two more projects are energy storage systems with a capacity of 200 megawatts worth $220 million, which will be built in Parkent and Pskent districts together with China Energy Overseas Investment. They will avoid outages during peak hours and reliably provide consumers with electricity.

In recent years, new hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of more than 400 megawatts have been built in the country through investments of $630 million, bringing the total hydroelectric capacity to 2.2 gigawatts.

Studies show that Uzbekistan has the potential to build 44 hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 3,280 megawatts. This potential is enormous in Tashkent region.

Currently, 25 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 1,330 megawatts are in the region, which is 60 percent of the country’s total hydroelectric capacity.

Four more hydroelectric power plants, with a capacity of 340 megawatts, are under construction for $880 million. Also, by 2028, 23 projects with a total capacity of about 2,400 megawatts worth $4 billion 800 million will be implemented in the region.

During the ceremony, two of them were put into operation – a small 2.5-megawatt hydroelectric power plant built in Akhangaran district and a small 1.5-megawatt Ugam hydroelectric power plant built in Bostanlyk district. These capacities will generate 18 million 400 thousand kilowatt-hours of green energy per year and provide electricity to 7,600 households.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to foreign companies investing in the country and wished them success in their work.

The construction and operation of 9 projects was launched by pressing a symbolic button. Their total cost is $2 billion.
