MIGRATION FEES IN JAPAN TO CHANGE FROM OCTOBER 1

In Japan, from October 1, 2026, fees related to changing the status of residence and extending the period of stay for foreign nationals will be increased. Read more.
💴 Currently, the fee for these services is 5,500–6,000 yen, depending on the application method (at the office / online). Under the new procedure, the fee will be determined based on the granted period of stay.
💴 The first amount is for applications submitted at the office, and the second is for online applications:
— up to 3 months — 10,000 / 10,000 yen
— 3–6 months — 18,000 / 15,000 yen
— 6 months to 1 year — 25,000 / 21,000 yen
— 1 year — 33,000 / 27,000 yen
— 1–3 years — 48,000 / 42,000 yen
— 3–5 years — 64,000 / 56,000 yen
— 5 years or more — 75,000 / 65,000 yen.
In addition, the fee for obtaining permanent residence will increase from 10,000 yen to 200,000 yen.
The basic fees for re-entry permits and certificates of status of employment will remain unchanged. However, a separate transaction fee will be charged for online payments.
❗️Important: the old fees will apply to applications accepted by September 30, 2026. Even if the permission is granted after October 1, the fee will remain at the previous amount.
💻 From October 1, payments for online applications will be made through a konbini (convenience store) or bank. Payments by credit card and QR code will not be accepted.
⚠️ Beware of fraudsters!
Official notifications regarding payments for online applications will be sent only from the @service-dgft.com domain. Payment requests received from other email addresses may be fraudulent. Do not click links in such emails or make any payments.
Note: this change does not concern an entry visa to Japan. It applies to immigration procedures related to status of residence in Japan.
