Prospects for Cooperation with Huawei in the Field of Digital Technologies Discussed

A meeting was held to further expand cooperation between the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.. The negotiations were attended by Minister Sherzod Shermatov and Tony Bao, Vice President of Huawei and President of Communications and Government Affairs.
The parties discussed several priority areas, including modernization of telecommunications and mobile communications infrastructure, expansion of IT service exports, positioning Uzbekistan as a regional IT hub, and development of the IT outsourcing sector.
Huawei and Uzbektelecom reached an agreement to jointly implement digital infrastructure projects.
During the meeting, the outcomes of past collaboration were reviewed. Notably, in 2024, the Remote Services Center provided IT services to clients in over 20 countries, with exports totaling USD 10 million and the creation of 300 new jobs.
The discussions also focused on the company’s ongoing initiatives to build digital talent. The “Seeds for the Future” and “ICT Academy” programs continue to be implemented. In 2024, the Uzbek team received the Silver Award in the final round of the “Tech4Good” competition held under this program. Twelve students took part in a digital immersion trip to China, while two teams competed in the ICT Competition in Saudi Arabia.
The parties highlighted the pilot launch of 5.5G technology in Uzbekistan during ICT Week 2024.
Attention was also drawn to the release of the joint analytical report, “Uzbekistan Digital Economy Overview and Vision 2030”, developed in partnership with Huawei, the Digital Economy Research Center, and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of the Tech Carnival 2025 international forum, held in Tashkent in May. The event brought together over 100 international experts, industry leaders, and professionals, with discussions focusing on artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, digital infrastructure, and sustainable digital development.
The meeting served as a significant step toward deepening bilateral cooperation, scaling innovative technologies, and advancing strategic initiatives in the digital sector. Ongoing collaboration with Huawei continues to contribute to the modernization of Uzbekistan’s digital infrastructure and the development of the country’s next generation of digital professionals.
