On December 17, 2025, the 26th meeting of the Commission on the Use of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes of the CIS member states was held in Tashkent. The event gathered leaders of relevant agencies and leading experts from the CIS countries, providing an important platform for deep and effective discussions on the main aspects of cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy use.
The choice of Uzbekistan as the venue for the meeting fully aligns with the strategic priorities highlighted multiple times by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in the meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council. The Head of State has consistently emphasized the need for joint innovative programs in the energy sector, particularly in the development of nuclear energy, the construction of modern nuclear power plants, and ensuring the energy security and sustainable development of CIS countries.
As part of the commission's meeting, on December 16, a meeting at the leadership level of the representatives of regulatory bodies responsible for nuclear energy use in the CIS member states was held. Participants extensively discussed critical issues such as ensuring nuclear and radiation safety, harmonizing national regulatory and legal frameworks, and sharing best practices in regulation and control. That day, an expert agreement meeting of the commission also took place, where the technical aspects of joint initiatives, including improving coordination and mutual support mechanisms in emergency situations, were thoroughly examined.
On December 17, the main commission meeting was held. A comprehensive set of documents prepared to further strengthen multilateral cooperation drew the attention of the delegations. Participants discussed the implementation of joint projects in the peaceful nuclear sector, the development of innovative technologies, the training of highly qualified personnel, and expanding scientific cooperation. Special attention was given to coordinating efforts to introduce modern safety standards and environmentally friendly energy solutions. At the end of the meeting, the work done was summarized, important decisions were made, and clear actions were agreed upon for the implementation of cooperation programs planned for the near future.
