Today, February 27, at 12:00 PM, a press conference was held at the Agency for Information and Mass Communications regarding the implementation of activities within the framework of the national projects "Developing Environmental Education and Culture Among Youth" and "Green Space".
Today, environmental sustainability is one of the pressing global challenges, making its resolution a top priority for every state and society. The government of the Republic of Uzbekistan pays special attention to ensuring environmental sustainability, fostering ecological awareness among youth, and developing their responsible attitude towards the environment.
In this regard, the Youth Affairs Agency is organizing a press conference on the topic "Developing Environmental Education and Culture Among Youth and the Implementation of the National Project 'Green Space'".
The main objective of the conference is to discuss ongoing initiatives to enhance environmental education and culture, provide youth with ecological knowledge, and instill environmental awareness and responsibility. Additionally, the public will receive detailed information on the "Green Space" national project, initiated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, along with achievements and future plans.
In 2024, the Youth Affairs Agency, in cooperation with the "Ecolog" Public Association, organized 530 "Mehr Lessons" based on the environmental education program in general education schools and preschool institutions, covering nearly 15,000 young people. Additionally, an animated series "Green Space" was created and uploaded to YouTube, educating children on topics such as rational water use, waste disposal, tree planting and maintenance, visits to flora and fauna, and national values, while also teaching manners and ethics.
As part of the "Green Space" national project, tree-planting events are held across the country every year. In 2024, 155,000 young people received tree seedlings, and a total of 1,165,189 trees were planted on 60,000 hectares of land, including "Youth Green Parks". Moreover, 1,555,435 seedlings were registered on the yashilmakon.eco platform.
For reference, in Nurafshon City, Tashkent Region, a "Spiritual Park for Mahalla Youth" was established. Initially, irrigation systems were set up on the land plots prepared for tree planting. Within the park, over 7,000 trees, including Paulownia, white poplar, willow, cherry, mulberry, grapevine, and elm, were planted across 8.5 hectares.
In the spring of 2025, "Youth Green Parks" will be established in 121 cities and districts across Uzbekistan, where 300,000 tree seedlings will be planted. These events will see active participation from members of the Youth Parliament, eco-activists, students and young scientists, book enthusiasts, laureates of the "Zulfiya" State Award, journalists and bloggers, athletes, artists, young entrepreneurs, and youth leaders—amounting to approximately 50,000 participants.
From November 11 to 22, 2024, the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held in Azerbaijan. During this event, the International Youth Committee was established in Uzbekistan to bring together youth from around the world to study global environmental challenges and implement large-scale international projects aimed at addressing them. The committee is currently working on developing recommendations and proposals to promote effective regional cooperation among the youth communities of Central Asia and Turkic-speaking countries, improve collaboration opportunities, and facilitate information exchange on youth interests.
