The fourth plenary session of the Senate discussed the law "On the approval of the Concept for ensuring citizens' freedom of conscience and state policy in the field of religion in the Republic of Uzbekistan."
Large-scale reforms are being implemented in all areas of life in the country, and radical changes are taking place on the path of renewing society. These noble efforts also play an important role in further strengthening religious and national values.
The improvement of historical monuments and pilgrimage sites, the development of mosques and madrassas, the organization of national and religious rituals, as well as traditional holidays of the Uzbek people and the peoples living in Uzbekistan, are a clear testament to this.
It is noteworthy that the quota for performing the Hajj pilgrimage for citizens of Uzbekistan has been increased threefold, and the quotas for performing Umrah have been completely abolished. To demonstrate to the world the religious and educational potential of our great ancestors, the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, the Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan, and international research centers named after Imam Bukhari, Imam Maturidi, and Imam Tirmidhi have been established and have begun their activities.
The law and the concept approved by the senators establish the guarantee of citizens' rights to freedom of conscience and the implementation of constitutional provisions regarding the secular state of the Republic of Uzbekistan. They also define the goals, tasks, principles, and priorities of state policy in the field of religion and the mechanisms for their implementation.
Furthermore, in order to carry out effective parliamentary oversight over the implementation of the main tasks defined by this document, the creation of a parliamentary commission is envisaged.
The adoption of the Concept serves to improve the organizational and legal foundations of the development of the model of relations between the state and religious denominations, based on ensuring religious tolerance and interfaith harmony, and strengthening an atmosphere of friendship, social agreement, and solidarity in society.
The law has been approved by the senators.
