Uzbekistan – Türkiye: Cooperation in the Religious and Educational Sphere Discussed

As part of the 1st International Forum of Islamic Civilization under the theme “Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance and Enlightenment”, an official meeting was held between Muzaffar Kamilov, Head of the Department for Religious and Educational Affairs of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Sodiq Toshboyev, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan; and Murtaza Bedir, Director of the Center for Islamic Studies of Türkiye (İSAM).
During the talks, the sides held a detailed discussion on further developing scientific cooperation with the Center for Islamic Studies (İSAM) in Istanbul on a systematic basis. In particular, the sides exchanged views on introducing İSAM’s scientific and methodological expertise into the process of preparing the Islamic Encyclopedia, organising specialised educational modules and online classes at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan for master’s and doctoral students with the participation of leading İSAM experts, as well as launching short-term practical training courses at İSAM for second-year students and master’s students of the Academy.
The sides reaffirmed their readiness to support mutually beneficial initiatives aimed at further expanding institutional cooperation between higher education institutions, establishing academic exchange programmes for faculty members and students, implementing joint research and professional development projects, and promoting the exchange of best practices in the fields of Islamic studies and modern religious education.
It was particularly emphasised that this cooperation will contribute to further strengthening practical partnership in the religious and educational sphere, as well as promoting the principles of tolerance, enlightenment and moderation at the international level.
