Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan: Further Development of Cooperation in the Religious and Educational Sphere Discussed

On June 30, in the city of Shusha, Republic of Azerbaijan, a bilateral meeting was held between Sodiq Toshboyev, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Work with Religious Organizations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the First Meeting of Heads of State Authorities Responsible for Religious Affairs of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States.
During the meeting, both sides noted that the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan continues to develop steadily, creating a solid foundation for elevating cooperation in the field of religious affairs to a new level.
The parties emphasized that preserving national and spiritual values, strengthening a healthy religious and educational environment, enhancing the religious literacy of the population, and further improving state–religion relations remain among the key priorities of bilateral cooperation.
Ramin Mammadov highlighted the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of religious organizations and developing institutional mechanisms of cooperation capable of addressing contemporary challenges and threats. He also noted that the meeting held in Shusha creates new opportunities for strengthening cooperation among the competent authorities of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States and for implementing joint initiatives.
For his part, Sodiq Toshboyev underlined the special importance of the consistent policies pursued by both countries to preserve their shared spiritual values and pass them on to future generations.
The parties also reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding bilateral cooperation, expressing confidence that increased reciprocal visits, the exchange of specialists and experts, and the implementation of joint scientific and educational projects would elevate bilateral relations to a new stage.
In addition, it was noted that the Joint Statement adopted following the First Meeting of Heads of State Authorities Responsible for Religious Affairs would serve to further strengthen multilateral cooperation in this area.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the implementation of joint educational initiatives and other issues of mutual interest.
