On March 24 of this year, a seminar-presentation was held at the parliament of Sweden, dedicated to Uzbekistan’s reforms in the religious and educational sphere, as well as its efforts to promote tolerance and interethnic harmony.
The event was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs Davronbek Makhsudov, Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan and Mufti Shaykh Nuriddin Kholiqnazar, along with leaders of various religious confessions in the country, representatives of diplomatic missions, and sectoral experts.
From the Swedish side, participants included members of parliament, ambassadors, representatives of cultural centers, specialists from research institutions, experts, compatriots, and media representatives — totaling around 120 participants.
During the presentation, it was emphasized that the large-scale efforts undertaken by the state to strengthen the principles of religious tolerance, further enhance interethnic harmony, and reinforce cooperation among representatives of different religious confessions are being widely recognized by the international community.
It was also noted that in recent years Uzbekistan has placed special emphasis on combating ignorance through enlightenment, improving religious and educational literacy among the population, and conducting systematic outreach to protect young people from falling under the influence of destructive ideologies.
The seminar featured an active exchange of views and a Q&A session with foreign experts and participants. Comprehensive and well-substantiated responses were provided to all questions raised by representatives of the international community.
Participants of the international seminar highlighted that interfaith dialogue, an atmosphere of tolerance, and Uzbekistan’s peace-oriented policy serve as an example not only for the region but for the entire world.
