With regard to the public appeal shared on social media by a citizen of Uzbekistan concerning the violation of his labour rights abroad and the lack of adequate assistance from the responsible authorities, we would like to provide the following information.
Since 24 September 2026, representatives of the Migration Agency have been in contact with the citizen and have been taking appropriate action based on his appeal and the documents he submitted. The citizen has received two written responses to his appeals.
Although the citizen stated that he is currently in Poland, the documents submitted to the Agency indicate that the employment relationships in question involve employers registered in Latvia. Therefore, in order to have the matter examined by the competent authority, on 14 October 2026, the Agency sent an official letter No. 02-19-1/8908 to the State Labour Inspectorate of Latvia.
The letter requested an examination of the citizen’s employment relationships with four companies, including verification of salary payments and final settlements, compensation for unused annual leave, payment for overtime hours, and the validity of deductions made from his salary. It also raised the issue of providing a legal assessment of discrepancies between versions of employment contracts in different languages.
The Inspectorate was requested to take measures within its authority regarding any violations identified, assist in recovering the amounts confirmed as payable to the citizen, and inform the Agency of the results of its examination.
We take the citizen’s concerns and request for assistance seriously. At the same time, the actions taken demonstrate that the Agency has not left the matter unattended. However, sending an official letter does not mean that the matter has been fully resolved: the payments due and the employers’ obligations must be examined and confirmed by the competent authority.
The Agency will continue its efforts, within the scope of its authority, to protect the citizen’s rights and legitimate interests.
