❗️ Liability for violence against children to be significantly strengthened

The draft law provides for amendments and additions to the Criminal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Code of Administrative Responsibility, as well as a number of legislative acts, aimed at significantly strengthening liability measures for cases of violence against children.
The draft law was considered today at a regular meeting of the lower chamber.
According to the draft law, for serious crimes involving rape or sexual violence against a child under the age of 14, long-term or life imprisonment may be established as a punishment.
The following measures are also proposed:
🔹 no statute of limitations for prosecution for such crimes;
🔹 video recording of the questioning process of a child who has been a victim;
🔹 conducting a confrontation between the child and the suspect under a special procedure;
🔹 when a crime is committed by the child’s close relatives, ensuring the participation of a representative of the guardianship and trusteeship authority;
🔹 providing children who have suffered from violence or witnessed it with legal assistance at the expense of the state.
