In particular, the Uzbek alphabet was further refined pursuant to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 21 October 2026, “On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On the Introduction of the Uzbek Alphabet Based on the Latin Script’”.
In this regard, the Ministry of Economy and Finance became one of the first government institutions to organise an event entitled “Explaining the Improved Uzbek Alphabet and Its Practical Application”, in cooperation with the Centre for Training and Professional Development in the Fundamentals of Official Documentation in the State Language.
The event was attended by employees of the Ministry’s central office, the Customs Committee, the Treasury Service Committee, the State Assay Supervision Inspectorate, and the Extra-Budgetary Pension Fund, as well as representatives of the Ministry’s affiliated organisations who participated via videoconference.
The event was opened by the Ministry’s Adviser, Obiddin Makhmudov, who delivered welcoming remarks and emphasised the importance of the mother tongue in the lives of individuals and society, as well as its significant role in the development of the state.
The event featured presentations by Inomjon Azimov, Director of the Centre for Training and Professional Development in the Fundamentals of Official Documentation in the State Language, and Azizjon Eminov, Director of the Uzbek Language Development Fund under the Cabinet of Ministers. They provided detailed information on the history of the Uzbek alphabet, the changes introduced in the improved alphabet, and its practical application.
In addition, short videos highlighting the richness and expressive potential of the Uzbek language, its distinctive features, and its ability to reflect national values were screened.
As was noted, in recent years, a number of academic studies, conferences and public discussions have been held on improving the Uzbek alphabet. Scholars, writers, educators, information technology specialists, publishing professionals and representatives of the wider public have actively participated in these processes.
The seminar also addressed issues related to adapting government agencies’ information resources and electronic document management systems to the improved alphabet.
At the conclusion of the event, participants received detailed answers from specialists to the questions they had raised.
