A workshop on improving Government Finance Statistics in Uzbekistan was held at the Training Center of the Ministry of Economy and Finance

The workshop was opened by Sherzod Mukhamedov, Director of the Department of State Budget Policy at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of reflecting the country's key macroeconomic and fiscal indicators in line with the international standards. He noted that the Ministry of Economy and Finance reports the general government and central government operations and central government debt to the statistical databases of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During the workshop, international expert Irina Dubinina delivered lectures on the analytical framework of Government Finance Statistics (GFS) and the IMF requirements for Quarterly and Annual GFS reports. She also conducted practical sessions on compiling GFS in line with the IMF GFS Manual 2014 and compared GFS of Uzbekistan with those of other countries. The workshop participants discussed the remaining gaps and identified priorities for further improving fiscal statistics in Uzbekistan in line with the international standards.
It is noteworthy that improving GFS occurs in accordance with points 5 and 17 of Appendix 4 of the Presidential Decree PQ-114 dated March 4, 2024 "On Measures to Organize the Activities of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”. The Decree tasks the Ministry of Economy and Finance with expanding the coverage of general government and central government operations and the central government debt to ensure transitioning of Uzbekistan from the IMF Enhanced General Data Dissemination System (e-GDDS) to the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS).
Based on the result of the two-day workshop, organized jointly with the international consultant, appropriate measures to improve GFS will be determined to ensure accurate reflection of key macroeconomic and fiscal indicators of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the international statistical databases.
