Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The seminar brought together nearly 80 representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, UNFPA, international organizations, and more than 40 ministries and government agencies across the country.

During the seminar, participants discussed the current demographic situation in Uzbekistan and demographic projections through 2050. Particular attention was given to the potential impact of demographic change on the economy, the labour market, human capital, and the social sector. Participants also explored policy recommendations and practical approaches to effectively manage these challenges and mitigate their potential negative effects.

Facilitated by international expert Samer Chidiac, participants examined four possible scenarios for Uzbekistan's future development. These scenarios were used not as precise forecasts, but as strategic planning tools to assess future opportunities and risks and to develop effective policy responses.

Discussions were conducted in working groups across five priority areas: expanding women's economic opportunities, youth and future talent development, active ageing, evolving labour market models, and future skills and lifelong learning. Participants addressed the impact of artificial intelligence and automation on the labour market, preparing young people for emerging professions, increasing women's economic participation, reducing informal employment, adapting to population ageing, and strengthening modern systems for reskilling and upskilling.

As an outcome of the seminar, a "Future of Jobs and Human Capital" Initiative Portfolio was developed, bringing together practical policy proposals, projects, and strategic initiatives designed to address future opportunities and challenges.
