Global lessons on public-private partnerships discussed during the Spring Meetings

The event was organized by the Georgetown Psaros Center for Financial Markets and Policy and brought together representatives of international financial institutions, investment banks, infrastructure companies, and government agencies.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ilhom Umrzakov, participated in the discussion and shared insights on the ongoing economic reforms in Uzbekistan, particularly efforts to develop public-private partnership mechanisms, attract private investment, and enhance infrastructure financing.
During the roundtable, participants discussed key challenges in implementing PPP projects, including political and regulatory risks, currency and financial risks, demand uncertainty, and ESG considerations. In addition, successful international practices, mechanisms to strengthen private sector engagement, and the role of multilateral development institutions were highlighted.
The discussion also focused on improving PPP design and implementation, strengthening cooperation between banks and institutional investors, and enhancing the overall quality of project preparation and execution.
The roundtable served as an important platform for generating solutions at the intersection of global finance and public policy, contributing to efforts aimed at mobilizing private capital and supporting sustainable economic growth in developing countries, including Uzbekistan.
