Cooperation between the Ministry of Digital Technologies and UNESCO in the Field of Digital Statistics

As part of the United Nations Civil Service Forum, a bilateral meeting took place between Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Bajracharya Roshan, Senior Regional Advisor for Asia-Pacific at the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS).
The parties exchanged views on the ongoing digital transformation in Uzbekistan, including the development of information and communication technologies, digitization of public services, and statistical collaboration. The Minister highlighted the progress achieved since 2017 in enhancing data dissemination and quality, the implementation of measures aimed at protecting public health, and the dynamic growth of the IT sector. He also underscored the government’s focus on improving educational standards and fostering an environment conducive to the development of artificial intelligence.
Discussions also addressed issues related to enhancing data transparency, quality assurance, the establishment of new databases, and cooperation in matters of data security.
The parties expressed their intention to strengthen collaboration in the field of digital technologies through the implementation of joint initiatives.
Background: The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is the official statistical agency of UNESCO, providing internationally comparable and reliable data in the areas of education, science, culture, and communication. In coordination with national statistical offices, relevant ministries, and specialized organizations, the UIS compiles key indicators across UNESCO’s mandated fields.
