Cooperation with Japan: A New Step in Uzbekistan’s Digital Development

A delegation led by Akihiro Sakurai, Advisor to the Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, held a series of meetings and negotiations in Tokyo to strengthen cooperation in ICT and IT education with Japan.
During the visit, discussions focused on advancing bilateral projects in the digital sector.
Key Meetings and Agreements:
- Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI): Uzbekistan’s ICT strategy was presented. Agreements were reached on Japan’s participation in ICT Week and GameFest 2025, as well as on sending IT business missions to Uzbekistan.
- Daiwa House: Discussions covered the creation of an IT outsourcing center in Uzbekistan and training architectural designers in 3D technologies. The company confirmed plans to send a representative to Uzbekistan in March-April.
- JETRO: Talks focused on attracting Japanese companies to Uzbekistan’s IT sector and organizing specialized forums for them.
- Zeroboard: Considered the establishment of an outsourcing center in Uzbekistan in the energy and digital solutions sector.
- JVTA (Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy): Reached an agreement to implement online education and joint projects in film, anime, and manga translation.
- My Navi Central Europe: Following their February visit to Uzbekistan, representatives shared their impressions and planned a presentation on Uzbekistan’s advantages over Central Europe at an outsourcing conference in April.
- Tokyo International Professional University of Technology, IGDA, and Kyoto Seika University: Agreed on cooperation in creative industries, gaming, graphic design, and robotics, including student exchanges and joint programs.
- METI’s Department of Culture and Creative Industries: Discussed ways to increase Uzbek companies’ presence in gaming and animation markets and expand cooperation with Japan.
- AJA (Association of Japanese Animation): Explored opportunities for Japanese company participation in GameFest 2025 and the development of Uzbekistan’s commercial animation sector.
- Tsukuba University: Reviewed potential collaboration on the Cyber University project and the development of joint educational programs.
- Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC): Reached agreements on engaging Japanese ICT companies in ICT Week 2025, collaborating in artificial intelligence, and facilitating Uzbekistan’s participation in the Osaka/Kansai EXPO 2025.
- Digital Knowledge: Planned joint training programs in BIM and CAD, alongside a high-level opening ceremony for IT Park’s Japan office.
- Pole-to-Win: Finalized agreements on IT Park residency and participation in an outsourcing conference in April.
- IGDA Chairman Sho Sato : Provided recommendations on involving Sony and Bandai Namco in GameFest 2025 and ensuring Uzbekistan’s participation in Osaka/Kansai EXPO 2025.
- A1 Japan Ltd. and CosmoWinds: Discussed developing Uzbekistan’s game development sector, strengthening human capital, and launching globally competitive projects.
This business mission marked a significant step in increasing Uzbekistan’s global visibility in digital technologies, expanding education opportunities for youth, and creating new employment prospects.
Within the framework of ICT Week 2025 and GameFest 2025, further projects and events with Japanese companies and universities are being developed to strengthen bilateral cooperation!
