Samarkand-2028 Hyperspectral Satellite to Be Launched into Orbit on August 5

In recent years, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, special attention has been given to the development of national space technologies, the expansion of satellite programs, and the strengthening of international cooperation in the space sector. The Samarkand-2028 mission is one of the practical outcomes of this policy and marks an important milestone in demonstrating Uzbekistan’s capabilities in space technologies and artificial intelligence on the international stage.
The Samarkand-2028 satellite is the result of cooperation under the strategic memorandum signed between the Uzbekcosmos Agency and STAR.VISION. In accordance with this memorandum, the hyperspectral satellite, which will be launched by China, was named Samarkand-2028 in honor of the decision adopted at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Sydney to host the 2028 IAC in Samarkand.
As part of the project, specialists from the Uzbekcosmos Agency developed a dedicated artificial intelligence module for the satellite. This module enables hyperspectral data to be processed directly in orbit, significantly improving the efficiency of Earth observation. The collected data is expected to support applications in agriculture, environmental protection, natural resource monitoring, and other sectors.
The launch vehicle has now been loaded onto the sea-based launch platform and is en route to the designated launch site. All preparations are proceeding according to schedule.
