Uzbekistan-Japan: Discussion of enhanced cooperation in education and digital technologies with Japanese universities of Tsukuba and Tokai

Deputy Minister Karimjonov outlined various projects and initiatives aimed at developing digital education, highlighting new opportunities in Uzbekistan's education sector. Mr Nagata expressed his readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation, recognising Uzbekistan's educational potential and ongoing reforms.
For reference: The Japan Association of National Universities (JANU) comprises 86 national universities that play an important role in promoting high-level teaching and research worldwide. These universities focus on advancing critical academic disciplines, ensuring equal access to higher education, and developing global human resources. The Association's 60,000 professors and teachers educate 580,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In another meeting, Deputy Minister Karimjonov met with Mr Kazuhiko Hamamoto, Vice President of Tokai University. The meeting began with a presentation of Tokai University's projects and educational model. Rustam Karimjonov proposed the establishment of a branch of Tokai University in Uzbekistan, which was supported by Mr Hamamoto. Mr. Hamamoto also proposed to start cooperation with Japanese language courses and exchange programmes for students and professors, which is an important step for Tokai University's entry into Uzbekistan.
For reference: Tokai University, a private institution founded in 1942, offers 31 undergraduate and graduate programmes on 7 campuses, with 75 departments, 19 schools and 17 graduate schools. The university has approximately 28,500 students and maintains academic exchange agreements with 128 institutions in 39 countries. As of May 2020, there are 1,247 international students on campus and the university has 6 overseas representative offices in Denmark, USA, Austria, South Korea, Thailand and Russia.
