Uzbekistan and Japan Step Up Strategic Cooperation in IT and Telecommunications

Minister of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov held a meeting with Japan’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Yoshimasa Hayashi to discuss the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
The talks focused on elevating Uzbekistan–Japan cooperation to a new level, with particular emphasis on expanding collaboration in digital technologies, telecommunications, and human capital development.
Minister Sherzod Shermatov underscored Uzbekistan’s potential as a competitive outsourcing destination for Japanese companies. In this context, the opening of IT Park Uzbekistan’s first overseas representative office in Tokyo in May this year was highlighted as a practical step toward deepening bilateral IT cooperation, attracting Japanese businesses to the Uzbek market, and advancing joint projects.
The parties also exchanged views on mutual support within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) conference scheduled for 2026.
Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to further deepen strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the fields of IT and telecommunications.
