Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan, Hirata Kenji, to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in digital technologies, telecommunications, education and artificial intelligence.
During the talks, the Minister emphasized the growing importance of foreign language education in Uzbekistan, noting a steady increase in demand for the Japanese language. In this context, the sides reviewed opportunities to attract Japanese volunteers and companies to Uzbekistan, including rapidly developing and remote regions of the country.
Sherzod Shermatov highlighted the favorable conditions created for foreign investors within IT Park Uzbekistan. Particular attention was drawn to the relatively low cost of doing business in regional areas, which creates attractive conditions for long-term cooperation. It was also noted that local authorities actively support initiatives aimed at employing young people and developing regional human capital.
The discussions covered potential cooperation in the construction of data centers, modernization of telecommunications infrastructure, increasing internet speed and reliability, and the export of artificial intelligence-based services. It was observed that rising energy and data center costs in Japan and Europe could increase interest among Japanese companies in leveraging infrastructure opportunities in Uzbekistan.
As part of the visit, the Japanese delegation was also introduced to the activities of UZINFOCOM, the national single integrator, with presentations on its ongoing projects. Information was additionally provided on the key areas of operation and opportunities offered by UzSOC.
Ambassador Hirata Kenji underscored the significance of the meeting ahead of the upcoming C5+Japan summit and highly commended the Ministry’s preparatory work aimed at ensuring an effective organization of high-level engagements. He noted that Japanese companies are demonstrating growing interest in Uzbekistan and stated that the Embassy would put forward proposals to facilitate their entry into the Uzbek market within its mandate.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed readiness to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in digital technologies, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, education and innovation.
